A comfortable mattress can help you achieve a good night’s sleep, providing the necessary rest for your mind to maintain emotional regulation and good cognitive function.

Multiple nights of poor sleep health likely compound to result in disrupted daytime functioning. For example, people with difficulty falling or staying asleep just two nights per week have higher levels of depressive symptoms than those without sleep difficulties

Firmness, support, pressure relief, and temperature regulation all contribute to the comfort of a mattress. Finding the best mattress for you can sometimes seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.

The Handbook Team has tested over 100 mattress models, including the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid mattress, which features advanced cooling materials throughout its construction to prevent sleepers from overheating. Read on to discover what our testers had to say and considerations for different sleep positions for the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid.

Our verdict

Our testers say the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid mattress is well-suited for back and side sleepers of all body types. While we tested the medium-firm version for this review, you can choose between the mattress’s three firmness levels (plush, medium-firm, and firm) to achieve the best balance of support and pressure relief for neutral spinal alignment A position that allows for the spine to maintain its natural curves at the neck (cervical), middle (thoracic), and lower (lumbar) regions. For instance, the plush model is featured in our roundup of the best soft mattresses for its ability to relieve tension around sleepers’ shoulders and hips.

Our testers say the Sapira Chill (medium-firm) quickly responds to movement, allowing for ease of movement across its surface. This is typical of a hybrid mattress since the innerspring coils offer extra bounce. It’s especially useful for people who sleep in multiple positions at night or those with mobility issues who need springiness to help aid movement. Despite its level of responsiveness Good responsiveness means the mattress has a bouncier surface that responds to pressure or the sleeper’s movements, making it easier to move around and switch positions. , our testers report hardly any motion transfer The degree of movement felt on one side of the mattress when a sleeping partner moves on the other side of the bed. due to the bed’s top plush layers of memory foam absorbing movement, making it a good option for couples who don’t want to disturb one another at night.

Lastly, this Leesa mattress stands out for its combination of high-quality cooling materials. The breathable cover is designed to draw heat away from the body, while the innerspring coil layer promotes ample airflow. The copper-infused memory foam layer also absorbs excess body heat to help regulate a comfortable temperature.

Our expert opinion

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is a hybrid A type of mattress made with both foam layers and spring layers. mattress built with a zoned support Support zones mean different sections of the mattress provide different levels of firmness and support layer with up to 1,032 individually encased coils and four total layers of comfort and transition foam. Our testers rate the mattress’s medium-firm model a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which reflects the industry standard for a true medium-firm. Alternatively, the plush model is best for sleepers looking for generous pressure relief while the firm model is more suitable for stomach sleepers

Our testers feel most comfortable resting on this mattress on their backs and sides. While back sleeping, they experience even weight distribution and light contouring around their hips. Some lighter-weight (130 pounds or less) side sleepers may feel some pressure around their shoulder on this mattress, so we recommend the plush model instead. But overall, we think most side sleepers should like this mattress.

This mattress’s bounciness also makes it a good fit for sleepers who change positions. Couples may appreciate its responsiveness (5 out of 5) and support (4 out of 5) along the mattress’s edge. Lastly, the Sapira Chill Hybrid excels at motion isolation The containment of movement on one area of a mattress so it doesn’t impact other areas. (4.5 out of 5), which helps couples remain comfortable as they share a mattress.

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid mattress performance

Let’s review how different testing considerations affect sleepers in different positions, of different body types, and with different pain relief needs.

Sleeping position and body weight

When evaluating comfortable sleep positions, our testers feel most comfortable while on their backs and sides. Back sleepers should enjoy the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s zoned coils to keep their spine in comfortable, neutral alignment. Our lighter-weight testers say their hips sink gently into the mattress on their side but feel slight pressure around their shoulders, although they still feel comfortable in the side position.

This mattress’s responsiveness and firmness level make it a good match for sleepers who change positions throughout the night. They shouldn’t experience any difficulty repositioning themselves or feel stuck inside the bed.

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid could be a good mattress for higher-weight people. Because they compress the material more, people of higher weights often perceive a bed’s comfort layers as more plush than other sleepers, so they should experience pleasant contouring in the lumbar region. The mattress’s firm model might provide better support for higher-weight stomach sleepers.

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s medium-model should bolster lighter-weight stomach sleeper’s hips, helping to keep their spine neutral. However, our testers do not recommend the medium-firm model to average-weight and higher-weight stomach sleepers, as their hips may bow into the foam layers.

From our tester

“I felt very supported with light body contouring around my hips while lying on my back. Average weight sleepers could receive even more of a comfortable balance of comfort and support. ”

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid mattress pain relief performance

In addition to special considerations for sleep position and body weight, our testers review mattresses for pain relief performance. We assess this by resting on the mattress and taking note of areas where discomfort and tension could build up over time.

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid offers a great balance of comfort and support and performs well at relieving pressure points at the shoulder, hip, and lower back. We gave this mattress a 5 out of 5 for back pressure relief and a 4 out of 5 for side pressure relief. However, this could depend on a sleeper’s body weight and selected firmness level.

For example, average-weight and higher-weight sleepers typically experience more body contouring around key pressure points than lighter-weight sleepers. Our testers describe the Sapira Chill Hybrid’s foam layers as a slight cradle without sinking too far inside the mattress. Although most lighter-weight side sleepers should feel comfortable support and cushioning, those with shoulder pain or who want deeper sinkage should consider the mattress’s plush option.

Finding a mattress with the proper firmness level is crucial for achieving good sleep posture and preventing back pain. Luckily, the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid comes in three firmness options to accommodate most sleepers. The medium-firm model should provide enough support to most sleepers with back pain, but higher-weight back and stomach sleepers could benefit from the extra support from the bed’s firm model.

Our overall thoughts about the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid performs well across performance categories. Because it’s available in three comfort levels, it has a lot to offer to a wide range of sleepers. If you’re considering purchasing this bed in a box, take a look at our tester’s favorite and least favorite things to help you decide if it’s right for you.

Our favorite things about the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s cooling capabilities are among the best our testers have reviewed, with them noting it feels cool to the touch. Its surface stays cool even with multiple people sharing the mattress, so couples and families should remain comfortable. When we used a thermal gun A tool that uses thermal imaging to measure how quickly the bed’s surface heats up after someone lays in it. to test temperature before and after people lay on it, it only went up 5.3 degrees, which is considered excellent cooling. Its construction allows for optimal airflow and heat dissipation, which helps sleepers regulate their body temperature.

This mattress also offers a great balance of bounce and motion isolation, which is not typically the case for hybrid mattresses. The encased innerspring coils provide good responsiveness but also absorb movements from the opposite side of the mattress. This makes it less likely couples will disturb each other moving around at night.

Our Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid mattress complaints

Sleepers who want deep sinkage should consider the plush mattress model for more body contouring. This option feels like a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale and is best suited for lighter-weight side sleepers. Higher-weight stomach sleepers may want to opt for the firm mattress, so they can get better support in the hips to elevate the spine.

Frequently asked questions

Typically, most mattresses are expected to last seven to 10 years. However, mattresses with high-quality materials, like latex, may last longer, while memory foam mattresses may start to sag sooner.

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is available in three comfort levels: plush, medium-firm, and firm. Our testers rate the medium-firm model 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which is considered a true medium by industry standard. However, this rating can be subjective based on a sleeper’s body type and sleep position.

Our testers say the Leesa Sapira Hybrid decompresses almost immediately after being unboxed. However, you may want to let your Leesa mattress expand for a few hours before resting on it. The brand cautions that the mattress can take a few days to fully firm up.
